The dry season can be a challenge for ornamental plants, especially those placed outdoors. High temperatures and low humidity can cause plants to wilt quickly or even die if not cared for properly. Don’t worry, here are some tips to keep your beloved plants healthy and fresh throughout the summer:
1. Water at the Right Time
Water your plants in the morning or late afternoon when the temperature is cooler. This helps the water absorb better into the soil and reduces excessive evaporation.
2. Check Soil Moisture
Don’t just rely on a watering schedule use your finger to check if the soil is dry up to 2–3 cm deep. Soil that's too dry can damage plant roots.
3. Move to a Shadier Spot
If your plants are usually in direct sunlight, consider moving them to a place with indirect light or some shade during the hottest parts of the day.
4. Use Mulch
Add a layer of mulch (such as rice husks, wood shavings, or dry leaves) on top of the soil in the pot. Mulch helps retain soil moisture for longer.
5. Don’t Over-Fertilize
During hot weather, plants are more prone to stress. Reduce the frequency of fertilizing to prevent root burn from excess nutrients.
