After Your Plant Arrives: International Shipping Recovery Guide

Your plant has travelled thousands of kilometres, including inspection and several days in a closed box. Some stress is normal. With a calm first two weeks, most plants settle in and push new growth.

The first hour

  1. Open the box carefully. Cut the tape rather than pulling the plant out. Leaves may be wrapped or slightly folded from packing.
  2. Check the plant and the packaging. If something looks seriously wrong, take clear photos right away and contact us (see the Refund Policy for claim terms). Keep the box and shipping label until you are sure the plant is fine.
  3. Check the roots. Firm, light-coloured roots are healthy. Do not repot yet unless roots are black, mushy and sour-smelling. In that case, trim them and pot into fresh, airy mix. If the roots arrived bare or wrapped, pot into a small pot of airy mix straight away.

Days 1 to 3: settle

  • Water by the mix, not the calendar. If the mix is dry, give a thorough drink and let it drain. If it is still damp, wait until the top layer dries.
  • Light: bright, indirect light, away from direct sun and heaters. Choose one spot and leave the plant there.
  • Humidity: a clear bag, a dome or a spot near a humidifier helps leaves recover. Open it daily for fresh air so mould does not develop.

Days 4 to 14: steady

  • Do not fertilise for the first 3–4 weeks.
  • Prune only leaves that are fully yellow or mushy. Leave the rest, because even damaged leaves still feed the plant.
  • Check for pests. Look under the leaves and at the stem joints. Keep new plants apart from your collection for two weeks.

Weeks 3 to 4: new growth

A new leaf or root is the best sign of recovery. Variegated and rare plants are slower, so be patient. Once you see new growth, switch to the normal care routine in our guides below.

What is normal, and when to contact us

  • Normal: a few yellow or drooping leaves, some leaf drop in the first weeks, slight curling, paler new growth.
  • Contact us: widespread black or mushy stems or leaves, a foul smell, rot spreading quickly, or pests. Send clear photos to Oramicin@gmail.com or WhatsApp +62895707787777.
