ZZ Variegata is one of the best houseplants for those who want something beautiful but low-maintenance. Its signature look is glossy green leaves with unique creamy-white variegation. Despite its luxurious appearance, it’s incredibly easy to care for.
This plant thrives in bright, indirect light. It can survive in low light conditions too, but the variegation may fade. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves. When it comes to watering, just do it every 2–4 weeks, or when the soil is completely dry. Overwatering is a common mistake, its roots are sensitive to too much moisture.
Use a well-draining soil mix like cactus or succulent soil, and make sure the pot has drainage holes. ZZ Variegata isn’t picky about temperature either, it does well in normal indoor temperatures between 65–85°F (18–29°C) and doesn’t need high humidity. To boost growth, feed it with diluted balanced fertilizer once a month during the growing season (spring and summer), and stop feeding in fall and winter.
If the leaves turn yellow, it’s probably getting too much water. Wrinkled leaves usually mean it’s too dry. And if the variegation starts to fade, try moving it to a brighter spot. This plant grows slowly, so repotting is only needed every 2–3 years or when the roots outgrow the pot.
One important thing to note: ZZ Variegata is toxic if ingested, so keep it away from pets and small children. Wear gloves when pruning, as its sap can irritate the skin.
Simple, stylish, and tough, that’s the charm of the ZZ Variegata. A perfect choice for indoor plant beginners!
